Welcome to TAWECOS (Tanzania Women and Environmental Conservation for Sustainable Development), a dedicated organization committed to promoting environmental conservation, community empowerment, and gender equality in Tanzania. At TAWECOS, we believe that a sustainable future relies on the interconnectedness of environmental well-being and social progress. We recognize the crucial role played by women as active agents of conservation and the dependence they have on natural resources for their livelihoods. In 75% of rural homes, women are responsible for gathering firewood, charcoal, and water for domestic use. They are also engaged in primary occupations such as farming, fishing, and animal husbandry. However, these activities have resulted in the overuse and exploitation of environmental resources, leading to risks and hazards in our communities.

TAWECOS is dedicated to improving environmental quality by empowering women and integrating climate-smart practices into natural resource extraction. Women are provided with education and training to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to sustainably preserve and manage natural resources.



Additionally, affordable and clean cooking energy solutions are introduced, afforestation programs are managed, and initiatives on gender empowerment and HIV/AIDS are implemented. With our passionate team, we work closely with communities to create lasting change. Our goal is to inspire women to actively participate in conservation and sustainable development, ensuring a harmonious balance between the well-being of our environment and the prosperity of our society. The objectives of TAWECOS (Tanzania Women and Environmental Conservation for Sustainable Development) encompass a comprehensive approach to address various aspects of sustainable development. Our key objectives include:

  • Promote Environmental Conservation:

    • TAWECOS is dedicated to actively promoting environmental conservation by raising awareness among communities about the importance of preserving natural resources. We engage in education and training initiatives to empower women as key stakeholders in sustainable resource management and conservation efforts.


  • Empower Women:

    • TAWECOS recognizes the pivotal role of women in conservation and sustainable development. We aim to empower women by providing them with education, training, and opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge. Through capacity-building programs, we enable women to actively participate in decision-making processes and become agents of change in their communities.


  • Integrate Climate-Smart Practices:

    • TAWECOS focuses on integrating climate-smart practices into natural resource extraction. By educating women about climate change and its impacts, we promote the adoption of sustainable farming, fishing, and animal husbandry techniques. These practices mitigate environmental risks while enhancing productivity and resilience in the face of a changing climate.

  • Enhance Clean Cooking Energy Solutions:

    • TAWECOS introduces simple and affordable clean cooking energy solutions to reduce the reliance on firewood and charcoal. By promoting alternative cooking technologies, we improve the health and well-being of women and their families, while also conserving natural resources and reducing indoor air pollution.


  • Manage Afforestation Programs:

    • TAWECOS actively manages afforestation programs to restore degraded landscapes, prevent erosion, and enhance biodiversity. By planting and nurturing trees, we contribute to the restoration and conservation of forests, promoting sustainable land management practices and mitigating climate change impacts.


  • Promote Gender Empowerment and Income-Generating Programs:

    • TAWECOS implements initiatives that promote gender equality, economic empowerment, and income generation for women. We strive to enhance women's economic opportunities by providing training in entrepreneurship, financial management, and vocational skills. These programs aim to uplift women's livelihoods, improve their socio-economic status, and foster sustainable development in their communities.


  • Implement Nutrition Programs for Women and Children:

    • TAWECOS recognizes the importance of nutrition in achieving sustainable development. We implement nutrition programs targeting women and children, focusing on education about balanced diets, promoting access to nutritious food, and providing support for breastfeeding and maternal health. Our aim is to improve the nutritional status and overall well-being of women and children in the communities we serve.
